Your challenge is to conquer the breadth of Britain by bike! Starting with setting off from the seaside town of Blackpool, our cycle challenge encompasses some of the most beautiful scenery Britain has to offer as we tackle the tough 160 miles ride to our finish in Scarborough. “Challenge” is the watchword; this 160 mile route, completed over 2 days, runs from the Lancashire coast to Scarborough coast, undulating through some of the most iconic and testing landscapes of northern England, including the Lake District and North Pennines.
Day 1 – Blackpool to Harrogate
Cycling distance (Approximately 80 miles)
Your event begins early morning from the famous seaside resort of Blackpool before heading off along the Fylde coast towards Lytham. Cycling northeast, we sample some fantastic undulating lanes towards Longbridge, famous for the start of the Battle of Preston. We continue similar scenic roads as we head towards the pretty market town of Skipton before arriving at our stop for the evening in Harrogate. Set east of the Yorkshire Dales, this beautiful town renowned for its heritage as a fashionable spa resort is the perfect place to relax after a great days cycling. Here we will rest and recuperate after our hard days work but not before refuelling on some nutritious hot food.
Day 2 – Harrogate to Scarborough
Cycling distance (Approximately 80 miles)
After a hearty breakfast we set off for day two which promises just as stunning as we leave Harrogate and continue eastwards through the quirky village of Alne before heading for Castle Howard, a stately home in North Yorkshire. As we cycle through, taking in the stunning views, we pass through Malton continuing on towards East Ayton and our final stop and finish in the beautiful resort town of Scarborough to celebrate our fantastic achievement. After a much needed hot meal you will have ample time to discuss your challenge with fellow participants as you are safely transported back to Blackpool along with your bikes.

How fit do I need to be?
This event has been designed to be challenging, but achievable by anyone as long as you fitness train beforehand. Remember, you are cycling for two consecutive days, covering approximately 160 miles over very hilly terrain so expect to be in the saddle for about 6-8hrs per day…the fitter you are the more you will enjoy this challenge. Cycling training tips can be provided by Chapeau Events Ltd to put you in the right direction if required.
Who will be there to support me during the event?
Your trip will be led by experienced Chapeau Events crew. Our crew are selected for their experience in cycling events around the world, their friendliness and approachability, sense of humour and ability to safely and effectively deal with any situation that arises. Our crew leaders are also trained in expedition first-aid. You are in very safe hands with the Chapeau Events crew.
The number of crew and support vehicles looking after you will depend on the final size of your group, but the team will be looking after every aspect of your trip whether that’s transporting your luggage, ensuring your route is well-marked, sorting out any mechanical problems or giving you a lift in our back vehicle – our “Love bus”. At Chapeau Events we pride ourselves on our high crew: cyclist ratio and believe it leads to greater trip enjoyment as well as excellent trip safety.
Do I need specialist Kit?
Chapeau events will supply you with a kit list of what to take once you register to take part. Each participant will need to bring their own bicycle for this challenge. Other items of kit will be required such as cycling clothing for all weather conditions, cycling helmet and cycling gloves. Although Chapeau Events carries all major cycling parts, it is important that you carry spare repair items such as spare inner tubes, cycle pump and a spare spoke (just in case) …other than this you do not need any specialist kit.
Will I be safe?
Your safety, and that of the rest of the group, is our highest priority. Our trips are designed and planned with safety in mind. Your crew will be equipped with emergency mobile phones, first-aid kits and other safety apparatus where necessary. They always have access to our 24-hour emergency back-up. Our leaders are responsible for safety on the trip, and will make any changes to the itinerary they deem necessary should local conditions dictate. Pre-trip administration – such as compulsory medical questionnaires and travel insurance – is all done with your safety in mind.
What happens to my luggage each day?
Our support vehicles are with the group all of the time. All luggage and spares will be carried in them as we travel to each destination. On reaching our hotels, at the end of each day, you will hand over your bike for safe overnight keeping and collect your luggage. Each morning, you will hand over your luggage and collect your bike. Obviously space is limited and hard-sided luggage is not suitable, so it is essential that your kit is packed in a soft sailing bag, rucksack or expedition kitbag.
What insurance will I require?
Personal insurance to you and your bike is your responsibility and is recommended to give you peace of mind, should you incur and damage or loss.
Will I receive further information?
